Southwind Drum & Bugle Corps Opportunity

A few weeks ago, I sent out information about World Class Drum Corps audition/experience opportunities.  Those can be difficult for most students as one would have to travel a long distance to attend the clinics and actual auditions.  The below opportunity, however, is very accessible for students, whether they just want to see what it’s like or might be serious about auditioning for an “Open Class” Drum Corps like Southwind.  You’ll notice the first “camp” (open to any skill level student – brass, percussion, color guard – sorry woodwinds…) is not far away at Hoover High School on Saturday, December 3rd.  If you are eventually hoping to join a Drum Corp, this would be a good opportunity and experience – or even if you are simply just curious.

Hello Music Educators!

Southwind Drum & Bugle Corps will be holding 3 audition and experience camps for the 2017 season. We would love to have some of your students in attendance!

Camp locations and dates are:

Dec. 3 – Hoover High School – Hoover, AL

Dec. 10 – Warren Central High School – Vicksburg, MS

Jan. 7 – Baker High School – Mobile, AL

While the primary purpose of these camps is to select members for the upcoming year, we also view this as an educational experience for all those attending. Whatever skill level your students have currently, from just starting out all the way to having years experience, they’ll learn valuable information at our camps. They will be exposed to new techniques and ideas. These camps will provide a first-hand view of how a drum and bugle corps operates. Each attendee will receive feedback on ways to improve and grow as a musician and a performer.

Students can go to www.southwind.org where they may register, pay the audition fee and receive their audition materials. Registration is $85 and includes all audition materials, lunch, a Southwind T-shirt and instruction for the day. On Dec. 2, the registration fee increases to $100, so register early to save!

Our mission is to provide a quality music education for youth ages 14 to 22 along the Gulf Coast region, and through our audition and experience camps, our hope is to enhance what you bring to your students every single day. Please feel free to attend and observe, and if you have any questions or concerns, please contact us [email protected]

Attached is an 8 1/2 X 11 flyer for the 2017 season. If you would like to print this out and display in your band room, we would definitely appreciate it!

Thank you and we hope to see you at camp!
