Meet the Musicians

Dr. Sue Samuels (previous Director of Bands at UAB) is hosting the “Meet the Musicians” event at Randolph School in Huntsville again this year.  This is a great opportunity for students to meet music professors and directors from several universities across the state and to ask them questions about how their college band program works (scholarships, audition process, ensemble opportunities, rehearsal times, non-music major involvement, etc.).  

**As I tell juniors and seniors every year, you do not have to be a music major to participate in college bands (the majority of all college band’s membership are non-music majors).  It’s also very important to recognize that participation in college band is far easier than high school band (i.e. a lot less time, much lower show demand, little to no cost beyond tuition for the credit).  We have Buckhorn Band graduates in band programs across the state and multiple states who are very involved at their universities, successful, and able to participate in band.  I know they would testify to the benefit of staying involved during college.
