JAZZ BAND

The Buckhorn High School Band Program has a strong tradition of providing students with a rich and wide musical foundation.  It is the goal of the Buckhorn Band Program to provide a well-rounded musical experience for all participating students.  Instruments in the traditional jazz band include saxophone, trombone, trumpet, vocalist, and a percussion section including guitar, piano, bass, drum set and auxiliary percussionist.  Occasionally, the jazz band will open to a studio lab band set up, adding flute, clarinet, french horn and tuba to the traditional jazz band set up.  Each year the jazz band performs pieces from the standard jazz repertoire, as well as more contemporary pieces.  Through their participation, members of the jazz band are immersed in technical practices, including improvisation, jazz history and culture, and music theory.  Auditions for placement in the jazz band are held each Spring.  The Buckhorn High School Jazz Band is an entirely extracurricular activity and rehearsals are held after school.   Each year, the jazz band performs on the annual Spring concert.
